Heather's Happy Tails

Updated: Dec 31, 2021

Hey y’all! Thanks for visiting Heather’s Happy Tails. I am a wife, dog mom, and a balanced dog trainer that specializes in off leash training. My husband and I just moved from Fort Worth, Texas to Tualatin, Oregon last month (April)! We shipped all of our stuff and drove with our three fur babies for a long awaited move up to the PNWonderland! We have a corgi named Walter, a wolf-hybrid named Kylie, and a lab/Belgian Malinois mix named Stella. Whenever anyone asks me, “when we are you going to have babies”? I always reply, “I have kids! Three kids with twelve legs”. Oh, the confused looks I get!

I want to fill y’all in on a little bit of my background so we can get to know each other better! I got involved with dogs around six years ago when I began fostering. One dog, Kebby, really led me to my life path back in Fort Worth. Kebby was dumped at a landfill. She made her way to a nearby neighborhood and took shelter under a car where she lived for the next 2 days. I got a call about her from the foster group I worked with and raced to rescue her! Kebby was adopted by Suz and Kirk two months later on April 17, 2014. Suz and Kirk have become lifelong friends to my husband and I. Which is wonderful because we get to see Kebby regularly. They also introduced us to another couple, Noah and Katie Drew, and their pup, Ollie who we adore as well. We are hoping to find human and puppy dog friends like this in Oregon!

After Kebby was adopted, Suz got her properly trained from an amazing trainer, Bunny Brown Snyder. Little did I know that I would owe my whole career to Bunny! Bunny owns a dog training business called Dog Got It! and before that she trained hunting dogs for 30+ years. Bunny combined her knowledge from hunting dog training to help with everyday obedience. At the current time I was bartending full time, but knew I wanted a change in my life. So… I met with Bunny any and every day of the week that I could, soaking up as much as possible. She mentored me until I became a full fledged dog trainer myself. Needless to say, I was able to forego the service industry and support my family with my new found skill! Fostering led me to learn about positive reinforcement training, but Bunny led me to balanced training. So now I offer both!

Happy Tails, until we meet again!

-Heather
